Medium: Iron cross immersed in the ocean (with oysters grown on the surface)
Size: 130 cm x 100 cm x 22 cm
The ocean has been the highway of culture: the medium of inter-continental cultural diffusions. The ocean has served as a medium of dialogues between continents for time immemorial. Different religions crossed the oceans to find new shores. Hinduism and Buddhism from India went to China, Japan and many other South East Asian countries, while Islam and Christianity came to Indian shores. In fact, Christianity arrived in Kerala during the early years of the Christian era, much before it went to Europe. The artist created a metal cross and kept it at the bottom of the ocean in a cage 3 ½ years ago. The ocean worked on it, adorning it with oyster shells. This is a work in collaboration with the ocean. The ocean partnered to create the work.
