Subodh Kerkar has been working with shells as a medium for his works for many years. Once he created a large form of a moon using shells collected from Goa Velha beach during the low tide. The moon is responsible for the tides. He waited for the tide to rise and engulf the moon, the creator of the tides. He then decided to create a disc in bronze with shells covering the whole surface, except for the crescent. During the waxing period the tips of the crescent face east, while during the waning the tips face the west (in the northern hemisphere). The sculpture celebrates the moon and the tides.
