Navrasa: Oceanic Prayer
This installation was commissioned by Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), for their Arrival Level 1 – Terminal 2 Phase 1. The theme requested was Navrasas, the nine expressions described in Bharat Muni’s Natyashastras. The artist has created the performance installation working with Bharatnatyam dancers, women in sarees and the Halakki tribal women from Ankola area of Karnataka.
This installation was created as a prayer for peace. Subodh Kerkar believes that one of the factors of art is to inject peace and harmony in the world infested with so much of conflict and violence. For him art is an expression of love, empathy and universalism. This installation was created as part of Visiting Research Professors’ Program (VRPP), of Goa University under Mario Miranda Chair. (Presently Subodh Kerkar holds the Mario Miranda Chair as a Visiting Research Professor at Goa University).
