Sunset on the beach is a romance of two elements; the sky and the water. The sunlight playing on the hearts of the waves creates ultimate ripples of a great caress! \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs a little boy the artist went to see the sunsets with his father. His father encouraged his relationship with the mysteries of the setting sun.  Many a sunsets he had enjoyed ever since his boyhood have made a permanent home in his mind. The memories of those sunsets are special to him. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSometimes he wondered, “Does the beach enjoy sunsets?  Does the sand remember sunsets?” \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo, he dug some trenches in the sand of different sizes, parallel to the waves.  The trenches mimicked the sunlight reflecting on the water. He then fitted electrical bulbs in the trenches. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThat evening the sky was lovely. The sun drowned into the ocean after playing with the waves. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOne could no longer see the orange reflections of the sun in the sea. He painted so many watercolours with bold shade and light effects, that his friends started calling him a ‘shady’ artist.  (Actually he painted light, but most people noticed the shade).  The shadows of palm leaves dancing like swords on old walls painted with layers of lime paint always fascinated him. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo, it was not surprising that he tried to inculcate the play of light in his beach installations. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCone is the obvious form which emerges when one builds with sand.  It is perhaps the first form every child creates on the beach. He \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ebuilt a lot of large sand cones with moats around them fitted with electrical bulbs. He then waited for the dusk for switching on the lights. The \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003econes projected out of the shore, like many breasts of mother earth to put it in Freudian context.  The cones which were reminders perhaps, of the motherhood of earth. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs the night fell, the cones came alive.  All the fire of love deep down mother earth, sprouted like breasts of ambers. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNot ambers of rage, but ambers which exuded peace, tranquility.  Ambers you could touch, caress, embrace ….. for you knew they are not going to hurt you.  They were ambers of love.  The fire of love which has arisen to prove that the earth still loves you. He \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edug two craters in the sand, covered them with the copper discs with electric bulbs underneath them and ran the cable with electric connection under the sand.  He then switched on the lights and was stunned! He \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewas looking at a mysterious effect on the seashore. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt could have been an UFO; or perhaps a surface of a new planet not yet discovered….. ‘The Tenth Planet’. As it \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003estarted getting darker the work started evolving.  It was a sight which gave the viewer goose bumps….. Even today, the first honour to carry the Palanquin of Gods during annual festivities goes to the boatmen of the village Adpai, whose ancestors had saved the deities 600 years ago.
